COMING SOON: Guidance and suggestions on cleaning and preparing minerals for your collection.
First recommendation: Take your time and carefully consider any cleaning, chemical treatment and trimming steps you are planning to use on a specimen. Once you have applied a treatment or attempted a trim, you can't go back. If possible, try the chemical treatment on a duplicate, low value specimen to assess whether you obtain the result you desire.
Members, see the [ September 2008 ] issue of the newsletter for an article on using oxalic acid to clean minerals.
